Slim Aarons is an American photographer known for capturing (in his own words) ‘attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places.’ However, life wasn’t always cocktails in exotic locations for Aarons. The photographer began his career photographing soldiers in combat during World War II, for which he received a Purple Heart.

After the war, Aarons set his sights on capturing the lifestyle of the rich and famous. By winning the trust of his subjects, he was able to shoot some of the most intimate and candid portraiture of the 20^th century.

The photograph was taken in 1964, and depicts skiers catching some rays on a mountain top in Verbier, Switzerland.
