Cherry Blossom II
Designed as a diptych, Cherry Blossom I and Cherry Blossom II open a door into the childhood of contemporary artist, Dan Baldwin - creating a space filled with memory, emotion and complexity.
Baldwin explains: "We see two domestic interiors that should inspire a sense of safety and comfort. The rooms are populated with symbols of refuge; the bird returning to the nest, children climbing the stairs. At the same time these cosy rooms are invaded by a sense of time passing, the fragility of memory; a cracked vase, a barbed wire fence, a fire, rain clouds. And finally, the cherry blossom.'
In Japanese culture, cherry blossoms are considered a reminder that life is beautiful, but also tragically short.
Cherry Blossom II is part of a pair with Cherry Blossom I. It is from a limited edition of 100, signed by the artist.
